Staples, partner and head of the firm’s litigation group, was selected as an Associate for the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA). Associate status within the organization requires evidence of high personal character, honorable reputation and substantial experience at the trial court level.
ABOTA’s primary purpose is to preserve the right to trial by jury, and also works to foster improvement in the ethical and technical standards of practice in the field of advocacy, to ensure that litigants receive effective representation. Promotion within the ranks of ABOTA is based on years of practice and the number and length of civil jury trials in which an attorney participates. Staples will be inducted as an Associate in ABOTA, having completed a minimum of 20 civil jury trials in his career.

As the head of Archer Norris’s litigation practice, Staples has thirty plus years experience in resolving complex disputes for businesses, employers, manufacturers and their insurance carriers. His practice emphasizes product liability, construction defects and disputes, employment and commercial litigation, premises liability, toxic torts and catastrophic injuries. Elevator and escalator injuries are a special practice focus. Staples received his J.D. from the University of San Francisco School of Law in 1975, and his B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley in 1971. He is a member of the executive council of Association of Defense Trial Attorneys. Other memberships include the Association of Defense Council of Northern California and Nevada, and the Defense Research Institute.
