The blog focuses on a diverse collection of information and feedback based on recent appellate opinions. Commentary is provided by Archer Norris partner and appellate practice group chair W. Eric (“Ric”) Blumhardt and associate Kimberly Amick.
The California Appellate Law Blog offers a constantly renewing source of insight about how best to protect a case on appeal while developing the case at the trial court level. “Our goal is to highlight appellate opinions that affect the day-to-day practice of litigators and appellate lawyers,” notes Ric Blumhardt. “Most importantly, we strive to be a resource for trial and appellate counsel and to foster awareness that the decisions you make from day one affect a potential appeal.”
Ric Blumhardt has developed a successful appellate practice over the past 20 years, handling numerous appeals and writs before the various Courts of Appeal in California, the California Supreme Court, and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, many of which resulted published decisions. Blumhardt received his J.D. from McGeorge School of Law, University of the Pacific in 1983, and was admitted to the State Bar of California the same year. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of California at Davis in 1976. Blumhardt was a member of the Board of Directors of the Association of Defense Counsel of Northern California and Nevada (ADCNC) from 1996-2005, and served as its President in 2004. He is a current member of ADCNC, DRI and the Contra Costa County Bar Association.
Kim Amick works with Archer Norris’s appellate practice group and has briefed and argued cases before numerous California appellate courts, including the California Supreme Court and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. She graduated from the University of California Hastings College of Law in 1998 and became of member of the California Bar the same year. Amick graduated from the University of California at Santa Barbara in 1993.
